Our Employees

Sylvia Waterston, CPF® and owner, retired from her position as Systems Analyst and Project Lead for Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning in 2002.   During her last 2 years of employment, she worked part time in a picture framing shop in Fairfax, Virginia, under the tutelage of a CPF®, learning the preservation and design techniques recommended by the Professional Picture Framers Association.  After retirement, Sylvia worked for Fairfax County as a consultant for an additional 6 month, completing her project in 2003.

Sylvia and Jack Waterston had vacationed in Myrtle Beach each year for 30 years, and owned a beach house in the area.  When the Frame of Mind became available for purchase during the summer of 2003, they realized that this was an opportunity to set their retirement in motion.   They purchased the shop in September of 2003, and have gradually transformed it into their own, by applying preservation framing practices, including the sale of ready made frames, adding
needleart to the product line, and computerizing the operation.

Audrey Gore joined Sylvia as a part time employee in 2008.  Audrey is a graduate of Coastal Carolina University where she received her Bachelors degree in Art.  She has extensive sales experience and  excellent design skills.  She has quickly mastered the picture framing software and the computerized mat cutter.  Her enthusiasm, knowledge of art, and artistic skills make her a definite asset for the business.

Our Company

The Myrtle Beach Frame of Mind openned as a custom picture framing shop in 1985.  Sylvia Waterston purchased the shop in 2003 after moving to Myrtle Beach from Fairfax County, Virginia.   Sylvia's goal for many years was to retire and open a picture framing/needlework shop in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Purchasing the Frame of Mind fulfilled half of that dream.  When the A.Bradley Needlepoint shop in Myrtle Beach closed, the Bradley's approached Sylvia to ask if she would like to take over their remaining inventory.   The answer was yes, as this addition completed the dream.

We now offer a variety of
needlework products including hand painted needlepoint canvases, counted cross stitch patterns, needlepoint and cross stitch kits, DMC Perle Cotton thread and DMC embroidery thread, Paternayan yarn, and specialty threads including Splendor Silk, Flair, Accentuate, Kreinik, Treasure Braid, and others.

The Frame of Mind relocated to 9713 North Kings Highway into the newly constructed Waterway Village Shopping Center in September 2008.   This new location gives us greater visibility on North Kings Highway, and provides a promenade area behind the store which we hope to use for needlework classes during the spring and summer.

Although economic times are currently hard, we hope to thrive in our new location.  Please come visit us whenever you are in beautiful Myrtle Beach.
